Planning Assistance

WRCOG provides planning assistance to local governments on a contractual basis. Available and ongoing planning assistance include:

  • Preparing comprehensive plans and assisting communities with periodic updates as required by state law
  • Preparing zoning and development ordinances catered to address the specific needs and development issues of the community
  • Assisting in the preparation of annexation studies and environmental assessments
  • Performing zoning and subdivision administration to include development plan reviews, subdivision reviews, and providing staff assistance to local Boards of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commissions
  • Facilitating orientation and continuing education for members of planning staff, Boards of Zoning Appeals, and Planning Commissions as required by state law
  • Grant writing and research
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping

Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments is an agency that offers regional programming and governmental services in Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties of northeastern South Carolina. Created by the state legislature in the late 1960’s, its mission is to support local governments in the region and develop effective partnerships that foster efficient transportation systems, economic and workforce development and allow the region’s seniors to age in place.
