Upcoming SHIP Training

The SHIP Program (State Health Insurance Program) will hold a training open to the public beginning in March.  The dates and times are as follows:

March 24: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

March 31: 9:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

April 7: 9:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

April 14: 9:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

April 21: 9:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The training will be held at Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments in the large conference room, 1230 Highmarket St. Georgetown, S.C. 29440.  The Medicare Specialist, Kayla Ives, is seeking volunteers to help with the SHIP (State Health Insurance Program) and the SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) programs.  These programs counsel Medicare beneficiaries and report Medicare fraud.

Assisted Rides Program Updates

Although the Assisted Rides program cannot meet all of the transportation needs in our community, we have provided lots of rides for our clients in January 2015. Coastal Eye Group = 4; Horry County = 30; Florence = 40; Caring/Sharing = 8; Charleston Other = 8; VA (Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Columbia)  = 34; Georgetown Hospital Systems = 44; MUSC Charleston = 8; St. James Clinics = 6; Smith Clinic = 20; Other = 36; Dialysis (9) Riders = 234 Rides.  In total during the month of January the volunteer drivers provided rides totaling 34,557 miles.  What are you waiting for, give a ride.

Registration Opens for Waccamaw Sports Classic

Senior registration has now opened for the Waccamaw Sports Classic taking place on April 10, 2015 at Coastal Carolina University.  If you would like to sign up for this event contact Horry County Parks and Recreation (843) 915-7871.

January 27, 2015 HOME Consortium Funding Application Workshop – POSTPONED

The HOME Consortium Funding Application Workshop scheduled for January 27, 2015 has been postponed.  The rescheduled date and time will be posted soon.  Questions regarding the upcoming workshop can be directed to David Gray, HOME Consortium Program Manager by calling 843-436-6126 or by emailing www.dgray@wrcog.org

Staff will be available on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 to provide technical assistance to housing partners and to answer general questions about the agency’s HOME Program.
