Waccamaw Region Air Quality Coalition: the next quarterly meeting is scheduled to meet on August 27 at 10am. Representatives from local municipalities, industries, non-profit organizations, and citizen groups meet to share information about various air quality programs and initiatives going on locally and throughout the state. Staff members from SC DHEC also attend and provide updates and announcements regarding pending new regulations, funding availability, air quality trends, etc. At the August 27^th meeting, SC DHEC will be giving presentations on the South Carolina State Implementation Plan process and well as discuss the new Ozone Monitoring Station that is planned for installation in Horry County within the next year. Waccamaw Regional introduces newly redesigned website; newsletter and more in the works

Waccamaw Regional introduces newly redesigned website; newsletter and more in the works:  Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments rolled out a newly redesigned website today, featuring a wider array of content, a more contemporary look and a layout that’s user friendly and easier to navigate. The site, at www.wrcog.org, offers an abundance of information about the agency and the extensive range of programs and services it offers to the public and government agencies in Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties. Those services include workforce development, grant administration, transportation planning, assistance for the elderly and their caregivers, and even loans for businesses, developers and community organizations. “It really is a substantial list of services that we help people with. A lot of those programs, on the surface, people wouldn’t necessarily expect to go together,” said Sarah Smith, executive director for Waccamaw Regional. “We offer a lot of services people don’t know about and we’re trying to change that. We want people to see all we have to offer.” The website had been improved since its introduction in the late 1990’s, but this was its first overhaul of appearance, content and organization. The redesign is just one component of a year-long effort to clarify Waccamaw Regional’s services and programs, and make the agency more visible and accessible throughout the three-county region it serves. Waccamaw Regional unveiled a new logo earlier this year. The logo is already in use and has been well received. An e-newsletter was also launched to keep clients and community residents abreast of new programs and other changes and happenings at Waccamaw Regional. The agency has a presence on social media websites including Facebook, Twitter and Google+. “We’ve been kind of a well-kept secret, but that doesn’t help us serve the communities in our region. We’re doing more than ever and technology makes it easier than ever to share what we’re doing. We’re going to take advantage of that,” Smith said. She hopes results will be seen quickly in the number of people in all three of the region’s counties who are taking advantage of programs and services through Waccamaw Regional.

Workforce On-the-Job Contract Developer/Writer: The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments (WRCOG) is seeking a Workforce On-the-Job Contract Developer/Writer for its Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program serving Georgetown, Horry, and Williamsburg Counties. The primary responsibility of this position is to work with local employers and to serve as the liaison between the state, employers and dislocated workers in the region. The incumbent reports to the Director of Center Operations & WIA Programming. Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years of workforce or economic development experience.
