 Incumbent Worker Training Assistance

 The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments announces the availability of Incumbent Worker Training Assistance (IWT) under provisions of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.  The purpose of this IWT Program is to assist employers in training currently employed workers in an effort to keep businesses and workers competitive.  Private Sector South Carolina Employers located in the counties of Williamsburg, Georgetown and Horry in need of training for incumbent workers due to expansion and changing skill requirements caused by new technology, retooling, new product lines, and new organizational restructuring may be eligible for IWT assistance.  Interested employers must forward their request for IWT assistance to Ayla Hemeon, Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments, REFERENCE:  IWT PROGRAM, 1230 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, SC  29440, by September 30, 2014.  You may request an IWT Application by email to ahemeon@wrcog.org or visit our website at http://www.wrwia.org.

HOME Consortium Consolidated Annual performance and Evaluation Report: The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments HOME Consortium program has collected and reported on the outcomes and performance of the area’s HOME Reinvestment Act grant funding for the counties of Georgetown, Horry, and Williamsburg. The period reported on is July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014. Copies of the Executive Summary are available at your local library branch, the offices of the WRCOG, or may be downloaded here. Temporary Planning/GIS Technician

Temporary Planning/GIS Technician: The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments is seeking a Temporary Planning/GIS Technician. The primary responsibility of this position is performing entry level technical work in the preparation of GIS maps, including data collection and entry, and the preparation of related materials for COG projects and plans. Associate’s degree in GIS, computer science, engineering, or related field; current enrollment in related field at an institution of higher education; or an equivalent combination of education, training, experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Successful candidate(s) will demonstrate knowledge, interest, or project experience in GIS (ArcGIS 10 or higher) applications. Must possess a valid S.C. driver’s license. Waccamaw Region Air Quality Coalition August 27 at 10am

Waccamaw Region Air Quality Coalition: the next quarterly meeting is scheduled to meet on August 27 at 10am. Representatives from local municipalities, industries, non-profit organizations, and citizen groups meet to share information about various air quality programs and initiatives going on locally and throughout the state. Staff members from SC DHEC also attend and provide updates and announcements regarding pending new regulations, funding availability, air quality trends, etc. At the August 27th meeting, SC DHEC will be giving presentations on the South Carolina State Implementation Plan process and well as discuss the new Ozone Monitoring Station that is planned for installation in Horry County within the next year.
